The YMS mission is to nurture each child intellectually, socially, physically, creatively and morally in an optimum learning environment based on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori.
We are committed to promoting a safe and co-operative atmosphere where joy, love and respect from our dedicated teachers inspire each child to develop his/her full potential. This is re-enforced with the partnership of parent participation at home.
Being guided to the world at his/her greatest readiness, each child builds their own independence, self-confidence and love of learning.
At YMS, each child is encouraged to excel and to establish a solid foundation for learning and success.
INSPIRE TO ASPIRE
- Our school is centrally located at within blocks of the North York Civic Center, and a short walk from either North York Center subway station in the south and the Finch subway station to the north, at the Willowdale United Church building on Kenneth Avenue.
- The auditorium at the church provides an excellent facility for our gym classes as well as an alternate play area when weather condition does not permit outdoor activities.
- Our daily activities include French lessons, music, story time, and gym activities, in addition to the classroom Montessori curriculum.
- Our teachers are experienced and highly qualified professionals who love children.
- We believe that children have an innate urge to explore and discover the world around them and find joy in learning when they are actively engaged in the learning process.
- Children learn best in an environment of mutual respect and one that provides opportunities for cognitive, social, emotional, moral, and physical growth.
- With an enriched environment in the Montessori classroom, children learn best when competencies are fostered through repetitive, successful experiences while concepts and skills are internalized at their own pace.
- Children need opportunities to make choices, thereby fostering independence, self-esteem, and self-discipline.
- We believe the developmental needs of children are universal and transcend cultural differences.
